Saskatchewan reports second case of monkeypox, says not related to first case

REGINA – Public health officials in Saskatchewan say they have confirmed a second case of monkeypox in the province.

They say the second infection is not related to the first case in the province, which was reported on Wednesday.

Officials say both are likely to have been infected outside the province, but contact tracing is underway.

The Department of Health says the risk of the disease is low, but residents are encouraged to be aware of symptoms and contact a health care provider if they suspect they may be infected.

Typical symptoms include fever, rash and swollen lymph nodes.

They say that due to the risk of identifying the infected person, they are not releasing his location, age and gender.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published on July 15, 2022.
