Quick action by firefighters and farmers stopped a combine and wheat field fire from spreading in Perth County.
Fire crews were called to the scene of the fire south-east of Seaforth, in the West Perth municipality, around 6pm on Thursday after heat from the combine ignited a dry wheat field.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and limit the damage to the combine and part of the wheat field, but not to buildings.
Area farmers also helped by discing wheat stubble to expose the soil to help slow the fire’s spread.
There is no damage estimate yet for what was lost, but there is some damage to the combine and some wheat lost in the flames.
No injuries were reported.
A fire ban is currently in place for the whole of Perth County and South West Middlesex due to the dry conditions.
If there’s no rain this week, Huron County fire marshals say they may also put in place a fire ban.
Perth County’s fire ban allows backyard campfires in enclosed hearths, but all other fires are prohibited.
