With towns and villages across the county under a red or amber warning for extreme heat, several principals decided to ask parents not to send their children on Monday or Tuesday if possible.
As of Sunday evening, a total of seven schools run by Shropshire Council have confirmed they will only be partially open on days when temperatures are forecast to reach highs of 36C.
A statement accompanying each school listed as partially open read: “We are reducing the opening of our schools on Monday and Tuesday (July 18 and 19).
“We will be open to parents who need us to accommodate their children – but we advise all parents to keep students at home where it is practical and safe to complete distance learning. Any parent or person who needs us to accommodate their child will be able to send to school as usual.”
Schools listed as partially open are:
Bridgnorth school closure
Castlefields Primary School
St Leonard’s CofE Primary School
Church Stretton school closure
The closure of schools in Pontsbury
Mary Webb School & Science College
