Leo Crockwell, known for fleeing RCMP during a standoff at his Bay Bulls home 12 years ago, has been arrested again.
Crockwell was arrested at a petrol station in Witless Bay on Friday night, charged with assaulting two Mounties and resisting arrest.
He appeared in court briefly over the weekend and again Monday afternoon by phone from the city jail.
Now 65, Crockwell has a checkered history with the law, including the events of December 2010 when he barricaded himself in his Bay Bulls home after a domestic dispute.
It was the start of an eight-day armed standoff that saw him flee the house while surrounded by teams of Mounties, only to be captured 15 hours later by the RNC.
Crockwell faced 16 charges, including attempted murder, for shooting officers. But after a lengthy trial that included hiring and firing several attorneys, he was convicted of weapons offenses and making threats.
In court yesterday, Crockwell was ordered to undergo an overnight psychiatric evaluation.
He is due back in court this morning for the results.
