NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope suffered horrific damage in the crash

A new photo taken by the James Webb Space Telescope has NASA scientists fearing for its fate, as the damage caused by the micrometeorite impact is quite severe.

The images captured by NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope will contribute greatly to enriching human knowledge of the birth of the universe, as well as reveal many mysteries. The James Webb telescope could save humanity from extinction with its discoveries. However, the hopes of the world in general and NASA in particular suffered a setback as a recent picture taken by the space telescope shows extensive damage caused to it by a collision with a micrometeorite. The picture shocked scientists because the damage was extensive, although it was initially thought that they had caused minimal damage.

The whole problem started on May 22 and 24 when a micrometeoroid struck the Webb Space Telescope, affecting one of the observatory’s critical 18 hexagonal gold mirrors. NASA shared information about the micrometeorite strike in June and noted that the debris was larger than pre-launch modeling had predicted. So far, mission scientists have shared an image showing the severity of the impact on the James Webb Telescope in a report released July 12 detailing what mission scientists have learned about using the observatory during its first six months in space.

Scientists now suggest that the long-term effect of the micrometeoroid impact on the Webb telescope will be quite large. Exactly how big the problem is has not been revealed, but it could affect some of the critical missions of the James Webb Space Telescope.

What are micrometeoroids?

Speaking of micrometeoroids, as NASA says they are particles smaller than a grain of sand. Every day, the Earth’s atmosphere is hit by millions of meteoroids and micrometeoroids. Most never reach the Earth’s surface because they are vaporized by the intense heat generated by friction as they pass through the atmosphere.
