A Markham woman drowned in Lake Simcoe Wednesday afternoon after falling from a float tube, police said.
Emergency crews were first dispatched to Holmes Point Park in Georgina at around 2.50pm for reports of a possible drowning.
Police say the 35-year-old woman was on a float tube in the lake when a gust of wind knocked the tube over, sending her into the water.
Members of the York Regional Police Marine Unit immediately began a search for the woman in the lake using a York Regional Police helicopter.
The woman’s body was pulled from the lake around 4 p.m
The police report that the investigation into the incident is ongoing. They are urging anyone with information to contact the #3 District Bureau of Criminal Investigation at 1 (866) 876-5423, ext. 7341.
