The Ukrainian military reported another day of heavy artillery and rocket fire by Russian forces in Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, accompanied by airstrikes. But the Russians are said to have failed to set foot in either region or in the south.
In Kharkiv, “the adversary unsuccessfully tried to advance with assault actions in the Veliki Prohodi – Pitomnik direction,” the army’s general staff announced. The area is about 20 kilometers (about 12 miles) north of Kharkiv.
In one of the fiercest battles at the moment in Donbass, the General Staff reported that another attempt to break through the Ukrainian lines along the border between Luhansk and Donetsk has failed. “Ukrainian soldiers repelled the advance in the direction of the Lisichan refinery – Ivano-Darievka. The enemy suffered losses and retreated,” the message says.
In the direction of Slavyansk, Russia has applied artillery fire to areas north of the city, the General Staff announced.
“For 20 days now, the Russians have been continuously shelling the city. As a result of today’s shelling, two people were injured,” Slavyansk mayor Vadim Lyakh told Ukrainian television. “There has been no water supply in the city for two months, and 15% of the residents are without electricity due to shelling.
“22,000 people remain in the city. If the shelling increases, more people will want to evacuate,” Liah added.
The area around the town of Bakhmut was also shelled again on Thursday, with airstrikes, the general staff said.
In the south, the Russians tried to launch an attack along the border of Mykolaiv and Kherson regions, he said, but were repulsed. In this area, around Andrievka, an increase in hostilities has been observed in recent days, but there has been no change in the current positions.
