Scott Piercy leads after the first two rounds of the 3M Open, but some interesting narratives are starting to unfold at TPC Twin Cities this coming weekend. Pearcy has benefited from warming up the greens this week, which is unlikely to last until the end of the tournament. If it happens, it will be one of the best performances of the year.
If it doesn’t, there are a handful of forwards ready to pounce on Pearcy, who is chipping away at his six-hit lead against everyone in the field not named Emiliano Grillo (three back) and Callum Taron (five back). Tony Finau is among the six-back group and is a candidate to emerge as both the most talented golfer in the field and one of the best ball-strikers in the weekend rankings.
TPC Twin Cities has played decently hard for the first few days of play and seems a bit firmer than usual, which combined with some wind proved challenging for many players (Friday’s chipping was one end). Let’s hope that continues as the leaders butt heads Saturday for the right to race to the finish line Sunday in the first of a three-week stretch to the PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
