The John Wick movies come with reliable frequency and impressively realized violence, and the first look at the fourth film will make you wish it was March 2023. The premiere took place in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con when leading man Keanu Reeves appeared on a panel featuring returning Wick director Chad Stahelski. So what does John Wick: Chapter 4 look like?
It looks like… more. More recognizable actors in well-tailored suits, more stoned, measured lines from Reeves, and more gonzo action. The axe, bow and arrow kills look fun, but honestly the trailer for me is the shot of John incinerating someone with an incendiary bullet. Like the pencil murder from JW2 or the book and knife murders from JW3, it’s just new and wacky enough to be exciting.
JW4 | A sneak peek
In case you forgot, since the movie would have been released about two months ago in the regular timeline, Chapter 4 opens with our exhausted killer now turning his bloodlust on Winston (Ian McShane) and the rest of the high table. After cutting off one of his fingers, fighting legions of their soldiers, and being shot off a building by his surrogate father, John teams up with the Bowery King (Laurence Fishburne) to bring down the whole assassin business as violently as possible.
According to Reeves and Stahelski, Wick’s latest film will be set in New York, Berlin, Japan, Paris, and Jordan, and will see Wick cross paths (and bullets and swords) with various allies and assassins during his adventure. The trailer provides a look at the film’s new blood, such as Hiroyuki Sanada, Shamier Anderson, Bill Skarsgård, Clancy Brown, Rina Sawayama, Scott Adkins and Donnie Yen.
