The National Weather Service confirmed two tornadoes hit the Chicago area on Saturday as a series of storms downed trees and brought strong winds to the area.
A tornado originated in Crest Hill in the early morning hours and moved into northern Joliet before moving out of the area, the NWS said in a tweet. The tornado was rated an EF-0, the lowest level on the six-point enhanced Fujita scale, and had estimated peak winds of 70 mph.

Hours earlier, the NWS confirmed that a separate tornado had touched down in Naperville. Also rated an EF-0, it toppled trees, overturned chairs and caused damage to roofs. Peak wind speeds were estimated at 80 miles per hour.
Tougher weather may be in the offing, so you may not let your guard down just yet.
Bad weather is again possible on the night of Saturday and Sunday. Strong winds and heavy rain are again considered the primary threats, with a possibility of tornadoes.
