The search for a missing Lake Monona fisherman will continue Sunday

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The search for a missing fisherman who went overboard in Lake Monona will resume Sunday morning after bad weather forced rescue crews to end their efforts for the day.

According to the Dane Co. Sheriff’s Office, the search began around 1 p.m. when first responders learned the 74-year-old Milwaukee man had gone into the water. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Dive Team soon also responded to assist.

The two men who were in the boat with him told authorities the man was driving the 24-inch Ranger Reata when it hit a wave and veered sharply. The other two made it safely back to shore.

The dive team has focused its efforts in the middle of the lake, off Winnequah Road, in Monona, the sheriff’s office continued. He asked anyone else on the lake when search crews return on Sunday to give them enough space so they can continue safely.

Our dive team is currently searching for a missing boater on Lake Monona. We ask that boaters keep a safe distance from our boats for the safety of our divers. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
