Sony has offered an early look at some of PlayStation VR 2’s new user experience features, including its transparent view and broadcast option.
In a PlayStation blog post, Sony said that the PS VR2’s transparency feature allows players to see their surroundings while wearing the headset.
Users can select the function button on the headset or use the map in the control center to switch between viewing their surroundings or PS VR2 content.

The Control Center map also provides access to other settings, such as adjusting the size of the active play area, which can be customized using the PS VR2 Sense controllers and built-in cameras.
The PS VR2’s new broadcast feature allows users to record themselves playing by connecting a PS5 HD camera to the console.
Sony also detailed the hardware’s VR mode and cinematic mode. “In VR mode, players can enjoy VR game content in a 360 view in a virtual environment. Content will be displayed in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye) with a frame rate of 90Hz/120Hz.
“In cinematic mode, players can view the PS5 system and user interface and all non-VR games and media content on a virtual cinema screen. Cinematic mode content will be displayed in 1920×1080 HDR video format with 24/60Hz and also 120Hz frame rate.”
Sony said in May that it would have more than 20 games ready for the PS VR2 launch.
“Significant amounts of money are currently being spent on partnerships with independent and other third-party developers to deliver a significant array of compelling VR content at the launch of PlayStation VR2,” said SIE President Jim Ryan.
“That energy, that effort, and that money will continue to grow as the installed base of PlayStation VR 2 headsets grows as well.”
During Sony’s CES 2022 keynote in January, the company first shared official technical specifications for the PS5 VR headset and announced the first PS VR2 game: Horizon Call of the Mountain by Guerrilla and Firesprite.
