A weekend of heat and humidity prepared strong thunderstorms for Ontario Sunday night, causing extensive damage in some areas. According to Environment Canada and Climate Change (ECCC), the storms spawned one confirmed tornado as it raced through the region, causing power outages, property damage and injuries.

Tornado warnings were issued for areas north of Belleville along Highway 7 in the towns of Madoc, Tweed and Actinolith Sunday evening. According to the ECCC, strong storms produced tornadoes near Marmora, Madoc and Actinolite.
Tornado warnings were also issued around Frontenac Provincial Park north of Kingston, later expanding to communities such as Gananoque and Brockville as the storms moved east.
The Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP) and ECCC sent teams to the Marmora-Madoc-Actinolite area on Monday to survey the damage.
“A long trail of damage approximately 60 km in length has been identified due to at least one tornado and gusty winds,” the ECCC said.
The damage is preliminarily rated as a high grade EF-1 with peak wind speeds near 110 mph. However, the final length of the route and the strength of the associated winds have not yet been determined.

At the height of the storm, Hydro One said nearly 40,000 customers were without power.

Below is a list of damage reported along the road from Round Lake, east through Marmora and Madoc, and east of Actinolite:
- Trailer overturned in Rockdale with multiple injuries.
- Significant tree damage, including areas with very large mature trees.
- Houses were damaged with roofs partially removed.
- Barns completely destroyed.
- Downed hydro mains and poles, including on the roads.
- Roads, including Highway 7, blocked by downed trees and power lines.
