The provincial government has announced the next steps to develop wind energy in the province.
In April, the province lifted a 15-year moratorium on such projects. They are now accepting expressions of interest for wind projects on Crown land.
There is no limit on geographic size or the number of submissions that must be received by October 1st.
This is expected to be followed by a call for bids for the land in mid-December.
Energy Minister Andrew Parsons says the potential for the industry cannot be overstated.
He says the development of wind as a resource in this province is long overdue, noting that it is recognized as “best in class” by potential players and investors.
Global interest in the province’s wind resources has waned in the past year, with countries such as Germany turning to ammonia and green hydrogen production as they try to replace their reliance on Russian oil and gas.
Pursuing wind power generation was a commitment made in the government’s recently published Renewable Energy Plan.
