Sony has announced that a new firmware update is rolling out to PS5 beta testers today, which includes support for 1440p resolution, folders (called Gamelists on PS5) and a variety of new social features. Available to download now for beta participants, Sony plans to offer the update to all PS5 users later this year. “As always, some features available during the beta phase may not make it into the final release or see significant changes.”
Lists of PS5 games
In the game library, you will now be able to create game lists of up to 100 titles for PS5, PS4. You can create 15 playlists made up of titles you have on disc, digitally downloaded and streamed. The same game can be part of multiple game lists and you can give them custom names. However, it’s currently unclear if you can view these game listings directly from the PS5 home page.
PS5 1440p support
Compatible PC monitors and TVs can now select 1440p as the resolution. You will experience this result initially if the game supports it. “Or, if you’re playing a game at a higher native resolution such as 4K, then you may benefit from improved anti-aliasing by upsampling to 1440p output.” You’ll find the option to enable 1440p in the Display and Video settings.
