Stephen Skelly, regional organizer for the RMT, said: “The reality is that we had to take strike action because we were embroiled in a dispute with the employer – with Network Rail and the train operating companies over their refusal to award reasonable pay for our members. some of whom are in their third year of the wage freeze.
