The infamous diner, known for intentionally insulting its customers, has found itself in hot water after one of their waiters went overboard with the playful ribbing.
Over the weekend, the Howard family from Brisbane’s north were left “disgusted” by their experience at Karen’s Diner in Westfield Chermside after a member of staff made inappropriate comments, according to the Courier Mail.
Although Stacey Howard dined with her family during the restaurant’s “kid-friendly” hours before 5 p.m., a waiter called her daughter a “fan-only cake.”
He said on the way out: “My daughter was doing Facebook Live and this young guy came up and said ‘Are you on OnlyFans, damn it? “Here’s some content for you” and he pretended to jerk and bang on the table, he said.
After the comment, Stacey recalled his daughter’s jaw “hit the floor.”
From that point on, however, things only escalated.
He added: “My daughter sat on my lap because she was concerned and he said ‘What kind of pedo are you?’, ‘Are you all having sex with each other?’
Stacey also said he saw the same waiter call out to a young boy.
He said: “The epitome of Karen for us is someone who whines but the amount of swearing and profanity this Sunday was just crazy.
“We’re a nice family and we don’t mind banter and a bit of a laugh, but it got to the point where it was just vulgar.
“My daughter and my mother-in-law just sat there dumbfounded, it got so uncomfortable we just got up and left.”
A spokesperson for the restaurant told the outlet they were “disappointed” to hear about Stacey’s dining experience.
They also revealed that they will be putting in place appropriate training protocols to ensure “nothing like this happens again”.
Similarly, earlier this month, diners were kicked out of a deliberately rude restaurant in Melbourne, leaving them confused as to whether it was all part of the “act”, according to The Herald Sun.
The family was escorted out of the Carlton establishment shortly before police arrived; however, neither side reported any crimes.
A spokesperson for the restaurant told the Daily Mail: “Unfortunately we had customers who broke the rules and did not behave properly towards staff and were therefore asked to leave the establishment.”
On Karen’s Diner’s website, customers are warned that the diner does not tolerate any “homophobic”, “sexist”, “ableist”, “racist” or “sexual remarks” towards their staff.
