Mike McDaniel informed the media on Saturday morning that he claims the fastest speed each day at the team meeting and that Raheem Mostert earned that distinction from practice on Friday. Obviously, this team values speed, and not just on offense.
Three players on Saturday showed fans the team’s speed on defense.
First, Jerome Baker, who made a handful of plays in this practice, was competing around the edge on an outside play. He won the leg race and stayed tight to the formation to scrape the busy block and make the play for loss.
A few plays later, rookie Channing Tyndall burst up the middle and tagged running back Salvon Ahmed in the backfield.
Finally, Jevon Holland came from deep to cap off a short pass to Cedric Wilson Jr. Again, no live fights, but given Holland’s rookie record, he could add another punch to that streak.
That’s probably why McDaniel is thrilled to have Holland on his side.
“I like having him especially on the team I’m on and not the team I’m playing against,” McDaniel said. “It was great. I didn’t know much about him before studying the tape here and his play as a rookie was very impressive. The way he’s diligently approached his craft, he’s serious about continuing to take his game to the next level, and being an impact player is something the Dolphins team — all of us — are counting on.”
