Monday is Birthday Day in Halifax, but it’s not a designated retail closing day in Nova Scotia, meaning many stores will be open. However, some may have reduced hours.
Many Sobeys and Atlantic Superstores will only be open from noon to 6 p.m. Some pharmacies may also have reduced hours.
NSLC outlets will be open with reduced hours from noon to 6 p.m
Mic Mac Mall, Halifax Shopping Centre, Dartmouth Crossing and Sunnyside Mall will only be open from noon to 5pm on Monday. Scotia Square will be open from 9:30am to 5pm on Monday.
Municipal services affected
All Halifax Public Library branches will be closed on Monday.
Halifax Transit buses and ferries will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday.
The Alderney ferry service will run half hourly on Mondays, with the first crossing leaving Alderney Terminal at 7.30am and the last crossing leaving Halifax Terminal at 11.45pm
All municipal beaches will remain open under the supervision of lifeguards on Monday. All splash pads will also be open. Cole Harbor Outdoor Pool and Bedford Outdoor Pool will be open Monday.
The Halifax Common Pool will remain closed until the end of the summer due to construction of the new Halifax Common Aquatic Centre, which is expected to open in the summer of 2023.
Emera’s Oval will be open.
Many municipal holiday centers will be closed for the Christmas holiday.
Canada Post mail collection and delivery will be suspended on Monday but will resume on Tuesday.
The municipal recycling plant and waste facility in Otter Lake will be closed Monday. The Bayers Lake Special Household Waste Landfill will open on Saturday, August 6th.
There will be no municipal solid waste collection service on Christmas Day, Monday 1 August.
