Student food delivery driver in China splashed with soup by customer over poorly packaged $2 order

A student working as a part-time food driver in China claims a disgruntled customer verbally abused her about the order’s faulty packaging and splashed her with hot soup, throwing her noodle order to the ground.

The student, who lives in Weihai, East China’s Shandong Province, shared a video of her looking visibly distressed and tearful on Weibo on July 24, the day of the incident.

According to the student, a customer ordered a bowl of beef soup noodles for 17 yuan (approximately $2) using an online food delivery app. When the student arrived at the apartment complex, she asked the customer how to use the elevator to get to the fourth floor, as a security card was required. However, the customer allegedly told the student that food delivery drivers should not be allowed to use it.

“You don’t deserve to take the elevator. Can’t you go up the stairs?” the student recounts the customer’s words.

The student says she then took the stairs and left the food with the customer. A little later, she gets a call from a customer asking her to come back because there is a problem with her order. When the young woman returned, the customer complained that the food’s packaging was defective and threw the bowl on the floor, splashing the hot soup on the student.

To appease the customer, the student offered to pay for a new order and explained that the restaurant may have packaged the order incorrectly. The irate customer then demanded that the student return in five minutes.

“I’ll give you five minutes to buy a new noodle dish or I’ll complain to your company,” the customer said.

The student rushed to the restaurant, where the owner said the food was packed properly and gave her a new order. After she returned with the new order, the customer was still allegedly verbally abusing her.

The story continues

“The customer was still very rude when I came back with another order, telling me that I was neither studying hard nor doing a good job,” the woman said in the video.

She has since asked the public to refrain from searching or assaulting the client and said she has moved on from the incident. The student also added that she feels very confident and full of strength.
