Taiwan says it will appropriately deploy forces in response to enemy threats

TAIPEI, Aug 2 (Reuters) – Taiwan’s defense ministry said on Tuesday it has full insight into military activities near Taiwan and will deploy forces as appropriate in response to “enemy threats” as tensions with China rise.

The ministry said in a statement that it has the “determination, ability and confidence” to ensure Taiwan’s national security, adding that it has made various unspecified contingency plans.

Earlier on Tuesday, several Chinese warplanes flew near the median of the sensitive Taiwan Strait, a source briefed on the matter told Reuters, as tensions rose after news that US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would visit Taiwan later in the day. . Read more
