2022 election: GOP Senate hopeful Blake Masters addresses supporters
Masters is one of a number of candidates in the Republican primary for this year’s U.S. Senate. No news agency has made a prediction for the Arizona GOP senatorial election as of 11:20 p.m. on August 2. Whoever wins the GOP primary will face incumbent Sen. Democrat Mark Kelly in November. Kelly ran unopposed in the Democratic Party’s senatorial election.

Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio
Former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is trailing his challenger in the Fountain Hill mayoral race.
The former sheriff said in the late night hours of Aug. 2 that the vote totals so far were from early ballots and he was awaiting in-person vote totals.
If Arpaio loses the mayoral race, it will mark his fourth election loss in recent years.

(AP Report) Voters on the vast Navajo Nation have nominated tribal presidential candidates Jonathan Nez and Buu Nygren in the November general election.
Voters narrowed the list to 15 candidates in Tuesday’s primary.
The Navajo Nation is the largest Indian reservation in the US, extending into New Mexico, Arizona and Utah. The candidates pushed for platforms that include economic development, ensuring basic needs like running water and electricity are met, and finding ways to preserve the Navajo language.

The question now, in terms of the ballot counting process, is what happens from here?
According to a statement released by the Maricopa County Department of Elections, they will release in-person results from Election Day as they are returned from each of the 210 polling places throughout the night. They estimate that 106,000 ballots were cast in person on August 2.
“Beginning Wednesday, August 3, the Elections Department will begin verifying signatures and processing advance ballots cast on Monday and from the polls today. We will update the unofficial results daily until 7:00 PM until all verified ballots have been counted. I will also provide a daily update on the estimated ballots remaining to be counted,” part of the statement read.
Election officials say they cannot complete the count before the Aug. 9 statutory deadline for the following:
- Conditional advance ballots submitted by voters who did not provide sufficient identification when they voted in person.
- Questionable signatures or ballots submitted by voters whose early voting signature has been questioned. These voters have a chance to cure the signature problem.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Marco Lopez issued a statement after the AP predicted that his opponent, Katie Hobbs, would win the primary race.
The last line, written in Spanish, translates to “It always seems impossible until it becomes reality.”

FOX 10 received several calls and emails on Election Day from viewers who said they were having trouble voting in Pinal County, in person. Some people said they couldn’t get a ballot to vote because some places had run out.

It’s Election Day in Arizona, and voters across the state are heading to the polls for the 2022 primary election. Voters will decide candidates for governor, senate, congressional races and dozens of state and local races. Many voters have already cast their ballots, but many people are still showing up tonight at the polls.

What to watch in the Arizona primary
Arizona, which Democrat Joe Biden narrowly won in 2020, is a prime target for former President Donald Trump, who has tried in vain to overturn his defeat. He has endorsed a range of candidates up and down the ballot who have promoted his bogus claims of a stolen election.
