Tony Busby calls a press conference Thursday regarding Deshaun Watson

On Monday, attorney Tony Busby said he had nothing to say about the NFL’s process for disciplining Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson. On Thursday, he will obviously have something to say.

Buzbee has called a press conference for 1pm CT on Thursday. The stated purpose is “to inform the public of the status of the Deshaun Watson and Houston Texans cases and to provide comment on pending NFL proceedings.”

Several plaintiffs will be in attendance, including Ashley Solis, the first of the massage therapists to sue Watson. The press release said plaintiffs in attendance “can share their thoughts.” In addition to the lawsuits filed against Watson, 30 Buzbee clients settled claims against the Texans after one of them filed suit.

The plaintiffs and Busby will be able to share as much of their thoughts as the settlement agreements signed by Solis and 22 of the other plaintiffs, as the settlements (as Busby said Monday) are confidential. Typically, confidentiality clauses in settlement agreements stretch widely to prevent any comment about the situation, allowing the parties to say only “The matter is settled.”

There’s a good chance they’ll say more than that Thursday, barring an agreed-upon extension of the NFL’s deadline to appeal to the NFL itself the six-game suspension handed down to Watson, we’ll likely know by the time the press conference begins whether an appeal has been filed.

The press conference is undoubtedly intended to pressure the league to impose a longer suspension on Watson.

Buzbee appeared Tuesday on ESPN’s First Take. With the Steven Ross/Dolphins situation at the top of the NFL news stack, I have yet to watch it. This will be my reward for successfully completing my trip to Canton, which begins as soon as I hit publish on this article.

As for rewards, I prefer some ice cream.
