Bottlescrew Bill’s Pub is likely to be forced to close two of its five patios for the rest of the season after a minivan destroyed them in a crash.

No one was injured in the two-vehicle crash around 10:40 a.m. Thursday. Calgary police have few details other than to say a vehicle collided with the minivan, sending it into the patios.
Bottlescrew Bill’s is a mainstay at 140 10th Ave. SW for 40 years along with its Buzzards restaurant which was recently retired and converted to a brewery.
Jeff Allen, general manager of Bottlescrew Bill’s, said there was no damage estimate as of Thursday afternoon.
“Thank God there was nobody on the pavement and the staff, I think, had already swept and cleaned that area near our premises as they usually do in the morning,” he said.
Staff members were indoors preparing for the 11:30 a.m. opening when the van crashed through the pub’s extended street patio and onto the 10th Avenue patio. By afternoon, demolition had begun.
Allen says the reservoir still has a back patio, a flower garden patio and a main patio, but the loss of both patios to the crash will take about 50 seats out of operations.
“This will have a significant impact on our business,” he said.
The brewery also has two broken windows. The pub was still open on Thursday and will remain open during the refurbishment.
