A man died after a motorcycle collided with a car

A 48-year-old man from eastern PEI is dead after his motorcycle crashed into a car despite the efforts of the car’s occupants to save him.

The accident happened early Friday morning, just after midnight, in Iona, north of Wood Islands, at the intersection of Routes 206 and 23, according to RCMP.

The collision is believed to have occurred when the motorcycle hit the car while crossing the intersection.

The driver of the motorcycle died on the spot. The two passengers in the car were not injured and provided first aid to the driver of the motorcycle until the teams arrived.

“At this time, the RCMP investigation is ongoing,” said RCMP Sgt. Sean Cody.

“We had a collision analyst attend the scene and the medical examiner was also engaged to carry out a post mortem on the deceased. So at this point the investigation is still ongoing to determine exactly what happened at the scene.”

Traffic in the area was briefly diverted, but the roads were then fully reopened.
