The highway is open after almost a day of closure

Fortunately, it’s been smooth sailing on local roads and highways since Friday’s major traffic disruption that began early this morning on Interstate 401 between Shannonville and Marysville.

Reports indicate that at 2:30 a.m. Friday, a tractor trailer collided with a parked vehicle, causing a large fire. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.

The entire highway was closed briefly and the eastbound lanes were closed all day and reopened after 8pm last night.

Due to heat damage from the fire, Department of Transportation personnel and contractors had to resurface the highway.

There were reports of people taking more than five hours to get from Belleville to Napanee.

Meanwhile, around 7:30 p.m. Friday, a vehicle went into a ditch on the 401 westbound ramp in Brighton. No one was injured.

And just before midnight, there was a single-vehicle crash on the 401 ramp to Highway 62 in Belleville.

The driver has non-life threatening injuries.
