The Seahawks added Noah Fant in a trade this offseason, and the former first-round pick is expected to be one of the offense’s top weapons, but he’s hardly the only threat at tight end, a fact that was evident Friday as several tight ends showed their ability to catch passes.
Tyler Mabry started things off with a nice grab over the middle on a pass rush from Drew Locke, then not long after in a goal line drill, Colby Parkinson used his 6-foot-7 frame to get past a defensive back for a touchdown catch. Mabry added a couple more nice catches, then in a seven-on-seven period, Will Disley made three receptions in quick succession.
“All these guys can play, they all have special talents,” Carroll said. “…One of the bigger surprises is that Colby Parkinson is just better. He’s just better. He has physically rounded his body. He’s worked really hard on his strength stuff, but now it’s become part of his movement and his strength comes from the line of scrimmage. He blocks well.
“The tight end group is a really good group. We go to them, we use them, we look to fit them into everything we do, and there’s no reason not to think that way. The guys are well-equipped, they’re really smart, they all have a little bit of uniqueness about them, which we love. It’s a great position.”
