Apple Maps begins collecting images across Canada – including Estevan – DiscoverEstevan.com

Apple is starting its ground surveys with vehicles around the world to collect data to improve Apple Maps and support the Look Around feature.

In the coming weeks, Apple Maps is focusing on exploring small and large cities in Saskatchewan.

According to Apple’s website, 18 communities will be explored in Saskatchewan. They include:

  • Assiniboia
  • Battleford
  • Estevan
  • Kindersley
  • La Ronge
  • Lloydminster
  • Maple Creek
  • Melfort
  • Melville
  • Moose Jaw
  • North Battleford
  • Prince Albert
  • Regina
  • Saskatoon
  • Fast current
  • Weyburn
  • Wynyard
  • Yorkton

Apple will censor faces and license plates from images posted on Look Around.

The company said image collection will primarily be done using Apple Maps vehicles, but certain pedestrian areas will require the use of portable systems.

Surveys of the selected communities will begin on August 8 and then conclude on September 30.

Residents can contact Apple to request that a person, license plate number, or house be censored if they were photographed in the survey process by emailing MapsImageCollection@apple.com.
