The brittle rocks of the Jurassic Coast have cracked under the recent heat wave, weakening the fragile surface and triggering landslides.
Experts have warned that as the hot weather continues, more rock walls could fall without much warning. Police advised locals and visitors to avoid the area.
East Devon Rural Police said in a tweet: “Another big rock fall this morning. Beach users are reminded not to walk on the beach east of Sidmouth due to unstable rocks which could fall at any time.’
The area is notorious for rockfall, with houses on the edge losing large parts of their gardens over the years.
A Coast Guard team was dispatched after the first rockfall, finding no victims or anyone at risk of injury.
