Falling tree kills golfer

A man has died after a large tree fell on him while playing golf in the Kootenays.
Police say they were called on Aug. 7 at 3:18 p.m. to a report of a sudden death at a golf course in Rossland, BC
The man was playing golf with three friends when a 100-foot tree suddenly fell on top of him. He tried to avoid the falling tree but was unable to and suffered immediate, possibly life-threatening injuries.
A golf course employee attempted CPR and CPR with an electronic medical device. Fire crews and paramedics quickly arrived and took over, but were unable to revive him.
The Castlegar News identified the man as 73-year-old Robert Archambault, a well-known member of the local golf community. The incident occurred at the Redstone Resort golf course.
“This sudden and tragic incident is a shock to family, friends and communities and will undoubtedly leave some in a challenging emotional state with many unanswered questions,” said Sgt. Mike Wicentowich, offering RCMP victim services to anyone who needs them.
“We would like to thank everyone at the scene for their quick response and for doing everything they could to provide emergency assistance.”
The Coroners Service has now taken over the investigation.
