Kevin Durant met with Joe Tsai recently in London and it was revealed that he expressed a lack of faith in the direction of the Brooklyn Nets. Durant has reportedly given an ultimatum that he is not interested in continuing with the Nets if Steve Nash remains as head coach and Sean Marks continues to run the front office.
“The timing of this is also unusual,” Brian Windhorst said Tuesday. “Even though star players have fired coaches for decades and will fire them for decades, he didn’t, to my knowledge, express that to the Nets at the end of the season. And he didn’t express that to the networks when he made his trade request. So doing it now is a maneuver. A maneuver that I don’t think worked.
“Because as I talk to teams over there, they don’t think he’s increased his trade value, they think it’s hurt his trade value.”
Windhorst also noted that Tsai’s statement of support for Nash and Marks also included a sentence that the league paid close attention to, stating “We will make decisions in the best interest of the Brooklyn Nets.”
