Spanning nine showings of the Skywalker saga, a number of separate big-screen films, and a TV angle that seems to be gloriously expanding by the month, this galaxy far, far away has seen more than its fair share of instantly iconic or highly underrated twists over the years.
However, for every Ewan McGregor’s consistently mesmerizing exploration of a leading light trying to navigate the path of a Jedi and the eventual downfall of an entire religion/republic and Carrie Fisher’s fiery appearance reminding people of the hope that still remains in the universe , has unfortunately also been another Star Wars rendition that left fans with a “bad feeling about this” very early on.
And what makes the following lackluster intergalactic appearances so damn surprising is the fact that every name involved has shown how strong they are with the Force in the run-up to their Star Wars debut, or have excelled in many projects following their time in this space. series.
Still, from deeply disappointing villainous arrivals to rehashed icons that just couldn’t outshine what came before them, each of these stars definitely didn’t live out their finest hours within George Lucas’s mind.
News of Joel Edgerton’s unexpected return to the Skywalker saga in this year’s Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi was quite rightly met with some optimism, as the Aussie sensation returned to his role as Uncle Owen Lars for the first time since 2005’s The Revenge of the Sit.
Not because of his appearances in the galaxy far, far away until this point, mind.
Before becoming one of the most respected actors of his generation thanks to his captivating work in everything from 2011’s Warrior to 2016’s Loving , Edgerton gave the most lifeless and lifeless performance possible in his brief and unmemorable role as Owen in both Episode II and III.
And while his utterly forgettable borderline cameos didn’t exactly mark him out as one to watch coming out of the Prequel Trilogy, largely because he was given next to nothing of note to do on screen, Edgerton at least brilliantly bluffed his way into many encounters early in his career, as he admitted to being a bigger part of the Skywalker story than he actually was before the release of Attack of the Clones.
