The latest Elden Ring patch makes a lot of things a little easier

Elden Ring patch 1.06 offers dozens of small tweaks that should make your journey through The Land Between a little easier. The biggest of the changes are in how summoning works, but there are also changes to quests, attack speeds, and bug fixes that might not make you die less, but at least make your death fairer.

As the patch notes explain, the main addition is “the ability to send summon tokens to summon groups in multiple areas, including remote areas.” It used to be difficult to find a co-op friend to help you out when you were in quieter areas of the world, but now you should be able to summon players to your cause from further afield.

In line with this, the White Mask Varre quest line no longer requires you to participate in a multiplayer invasion to progress, as you can now defeat a “new NPC” instead. This is useful if you’re trying to solo the entire game.

There is a list of balance changes that make small but numerous adjustments to players wielding a greatsword, curved greatsword, or great hammers, mostly to increase attack speeds, increase the size of hitboxes, and decrease the time that takes after an attack before players can roll. They all sound like rebalances to make these weapons more reactive and viable.

Finally, there is a long list of bug fixes. Some of them also make the game easier, like fixing an issue where wearing the “deathbed dress” would make you easier to spot by enemies even when you’re crouched. Others are hopelessly vague, e.g. “Fixed a bug that caused some enemies to have incorrect visuals and behavior.”
