There is a major power outage in downtown Toronto.

According to Toronto Transit Services, the outage affects a four-block radius from College to Harbor streets and from York to Sherbourne streets.

Lights, cameras and businesses are without power, the department told CP24.

The widespread outage affected several buildings, including the Eaton Center and Toronto police headquarters, as well as several towers in the financial district. The many large advertising screens in Yonge-Dundas Square also went dark.

Hydro One says it is investigating the issue and will provide more information as it becomes available.

Toronto police are advising drivers to treat signalized intersections as four-way stops if the lights are off.

CTV News Political Analyst Scott Reed was driving downtown when the lights went out.

He said navigating the city’s streets was a bit “hairy” as there were few traffic lights in the central part of the city.

Reed said police officers are directing traffic at some major intersections, but not all.

Toronto Fire is currently responding to several rescue elevators in the affected area.

I feel you. I came into town for the day – jumped in the elevator just before the power went out. Still here. Terrible moment. pic.twitter.com/8s4gcHRMan
