A Brampton media personality who was forcibly dragged from her parked vehicle last week and attacked with a machete and an ax required 150 stitches, lost a toe due to amputation and will need months of physical rehabilitation to recover, she said close friend before CP24.
On August 4, Jyoti Singh Mann was getting into a jeep parked in his driveway when he was approached by a man with an axe.
Video footage obtained from the scene shows the sekij swinging the blade at the car’s driver’s side window after Mann closed the door, knocking the glass out of the frame.
Two other men join in, one armed with a machete.
The violence only ends when a woman identified as Mann’s mother leaves the home to render aid.
Mann is a real estate agent and media personality in Brampton.
His friend, Brampton councillor, Gurpreet Singh Dillon, said he lost a big toe and the use of one hand in the attack and also received 150 stitches.
“Doctors say he will recover, but it will take several months of rehab before he can use (his arm) again.”
Mann hosts a podcast and his mother told CP24 he received a threat while recording a recent episode.
Dillon said Mann’s attack was the third violent incident involving a Punjabi-language media personality in Brampton in the past 12 months.
In one case, the home of a media anchor was fired upon. In another, the suspects confronted a media anchor with a gun as he exited his studio.
“Whether you agree with them or not, there should be no violence against them, so hopefully there are more leads in these investigations,” Dillon said.
At 14:00 on Thursday afternoon the Peel Regional Police Service. Sean Gormley will talk about the incident with reporters.
Police are classifying the case as an attempted murder investigation.
