A five-kilometre stretch of Highway 417 in central Ottawa will be closed in both directions from Thursday night until next Monday morning, causing what the city predicts will be “significant traffic impacts.”
All eastbound and westbound lanes of the main intercity artery will be closed between Metcalfe Street and Carling/Kirkwood avenues from 8pm on Thursday 11 August until 6am on Monday 15 August.
The gradual lane reduction and ramp closures will begin at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The westbound ramps at O’Connor, Rochester and Parkdale and the eastbound ramps at Maitland, Carling/Kirkwood and Parkdale will also be closed during the shutdown. The westbound ramps at Bronson and Rochester are now closed.
According to the city, the closure is necessary to replace the bridge over Booth Street.
