Pedestrian hit by vehicle, driver charged

A 45-year-old man has been charged with dangerous operation and assault with a weapon

A pedestrian struck by a vehicle Wednesday has led to charges against a 45-year-old man.

Police say that on Wednesday around 4:40 p.m., Sault Ste. Marie Police Department officers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

The victim was not taken to hospital, but has minor injuries.

During the investigation, officers determined that the accused was in a vehicle and the victim was walking on Queen Street East near Tancred Street. Police say an argument ensued and the accused drove off, then turned around at a high rate of speed, striking the victim with the vehicle before leaving the area.

On Thursday, troopers charged Tammy Polishchak, 45, with dangerous operation and assault with a weapon as a result of the investigation.

The accused is due to appear in court at the end of October.
