Firefighters appeared to be trying to stop the flames from spreading to nearby trees and bushes.

District Fire Chief Brian Michailides says they had to quickly assess the situation given the burning material.

“There were a lot of unknowns. We’re trying to figure out what toxins we’re dealing with, how many hazardous materials we’re dealing with in the building,” Mihailides said.

Alberta Environment is monitoring the situation.

Firefighters were also routinely rotated and monitored due to the hot weather.

The cause of this fire has not yet been determined and the fire department says there are no reports of injuries.
