Change Islanders frustrated by new development regulations

Change Islands residents are frustrated by the lack of communication they are receiving from the council about the new development regulations.

Two-thirds of the population signed a petition calling on the council to reconsider imposing restrictions on the development of buildings such as businesses and structures used for fishing and logging activities.

Long-time resident Heather White says residents do not fully understand the terms of the regulations and despite numerous attempts, the council will not address their concerns.

She says she is one of many residents who do not understand the benefits of the municipal plan.

White says the community has an advisory team for residents to voice their opinions on possible changes, but she says it’s hard to propose something when they don’t know what consequences could come from it.
