Vancouver police say they are searching for a high-risk sex offender who went missing shortly after being released from prison and is now wanted across Canada.
In a news release Friday, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) said the whereabouts of 60-year-old John Frederick Field is unknown and he is considered a significant risk to the public.
Field was granted a legal release from Kent Institution on Thursday, moving from a maximum-security prison in Agassiz, British Columbia, to a halfway house in Vancouver.
VPD says he left the house around 7:30 p.m. Thursday, just hours after being released from custody, and has not been seen or heard from since.
Police say Field has convictions for sexual assault, breaking and entering, robbery and theft and has a history of committing violent crimes while under the influence of drugs.
Anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
