The boss and council have hired an outside firm to investigate financial transactions in a number of departments after a whistleblower came forward with allegations of misconduct by group employees
The chief and council of Garden River First Nation have hired an outside firm to investigate “financial transactions” in a number of departments amid allegations of employee misconduct.
In a statement posted on its official social media account Thursday, the chief and council said they “took immediate action to investigate the alleged misconduct and to prevent further misconduct” after a First Nation official came forward.
“The investigation began after a GRFN employee took the courageous and responsible step of reporting what they believed to be misconduct by other employees,” the chief and council said in the release.
Garden River First Nation is not disclosing the subject of the investigation.
“However, we can tell you that the purpose of the investigation is to improve GFRN’s financial controls and ensure that GRFN’s finances and programs are protected,” the chief and council said. “Once the investigation is complete, the chief and council will consult with their advisors and determine what information can safely be released.”
The investigation continues.
