Biden slams “socialist Republicans” for hypocrisy after asking for money they voted against

President Joe Biden on Friday attacked Republican members of Congress for repeatedly asking for federal funds for projects in their districts when they voted against the same bills that provided them with the funds.

Speaking at a Volvo powertrain plant in Hagerstown, Maryland, Mr. Biden called out several members of the Republican Party by name, pointing out the hypocrisy of asking for funds from legislation they tried to stop.

Referring to a CNN report highlighting Republicans who denounced programs they tried to take advantage of as “socialist,” Mr. Biden noted how one member — Representative Paul Gosar of Arizona — had written three times to the White House in seeking funds for projects.

“He has written three separate letters to the administration requesting projects in his area. He says it will improve quality of life, ease congestion, stimulate the economy? He voted no, said it was all socialism,” Mr. Biden said.

The president recalled another Republican, Rep. Andy Barr of Kentucky, calling his administration’s infrastructure legislation “the biggest socialist program.”

“He is asking for three different projects, citing the importance of safety and growth in his area. Socialism? I didn’t know there were so many Socialist Republicans,” he said.

“People … you can’t make it up — I have to say I was surprised to see so many socialist Republicans in Congress,” Mr. Biden continued, later adding that a GOP victory in the November midterm elections would led to the repeal of his landmark infrastructure and deflation laws he signed in the summer.

“Guys, here’s the bottom line. If Republicans take control of Congress, these historic victories … for the American people will be taken away, he said.
