Speaking to the Telegraph, Mr Wallis hinted he could leave the Tory party if Ms Truss stays put.
“Given what I’ve written today, I think at the very least I’ll have to consider my position as a Conservative MP,” he said. “I couldn’t say what I said today and then not talk to myself.”
Andrew Bridgen
Andrew Bridgen was the second Tory MP to call for Liz Truss to resign.
The North West Leicestershire MP, who backed Rishi Sunak’s leadership campaign, also savaged Ms Truss in a blog post earlier today, writing: “Liz has sunk her own leadership and her predecessor’s potential return at the same time, all in record time time.
“The beleaguered Liz Truss is now friendless. She had the support of only one third of the elected deputies. We should expect more fireworks in Parliament this week. Unless this is resolved quickly, we are heading for a general election.”
Crispin Blunt
The veteran Reigate MP called on the Prime Minister to resign “now” after her failed mini-budget last month and weeks of fiscal turmoil.
Asked by Andrew Neil why he thought Liz Truss was ‘game on’ after just six weeks, Crispin Blunt said on his Channel 4 programme: ‘Well, we’ve got the experience of the last few weeks.
“We only have two years until the next general election and we need to get our bearings and show the country that we are capable of delivering stable money, stable administration and all the things that the Conservative Party is expected to deliver in office.”
“We’ve had a shocking couple of weeks, we’ve been taught a very harsh lesson by the markets, we’re being taught an even harsher lesson in the opinion polls and we need to sort ourselves out so that the country gets effective government for the next two years.”
“And, importantly, the Labor Party is then put to the test under the alternative proposal, which will then be put to the electorate in two years’ time.”
