Witcher 3’s next-gen update will add armor that can wrinkle your nose

CD Projekt Red will roll out its long-awaited next-gen update for The Witcher 3 on December 14, and with it will bring new performance and quality modes, a new photo mode, and other such quality-of-life features to the game.

However, he will also bring with him something that may not be so welcome.

Why yes, Witcher fans, this next-gen update will also include Netflix’s take (at least for its first season) on the armor of the Nilfgaardian army.

Eurogamer Newscast: Why is Sony worried about Call of Duty on PlayStation 6?

For a bit of background on this, in the opening season of Netflix’s adaptation of The Witcher, the Nilfgaard army wore armor that was quite controversial in its design. In fact, some likened it to a ball.

You can see it (the Netflix armor, not the ball) in the image below.

It’s certainly a choice.

Back in 2020, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hisrich told IGN that this armor was designed this way in an attempt to lead the Nilfgaardian army “away from Cintran’s army.”

Apparently, it “wasn’t meant to have the same look as the stock armor” (which, to be fair, the Netflix team certainly achieved with this design).

However, this choice was widely ridiculed by the production team, so much so that in subsequent seasons it was changed to be less wrinkled and unattractive.

But while Netflix may have wanted to move on from the old wrinkled armor, Witcher developer CD Projekt Red apparently didn’t.

In the words of AniGaming Nation: “the thing you hated about The Witcher Netflix show is coming to the game.” Along with this proclamation, they also shared a lovely close-up of CDPR’s approach to the armor, which you can see below.

This armor will be part of DLC themed around Netflix’s The Witcher TV series, which will also include new armor and weapon options for Geralt and a new outfit for Jaskier – and there’s even a little new quest related to acquiring them, with Doug Cockle returns in the title role.

So, are you looking forward to seeing more of this armor with its shiny new current-gen graphics?

Here is the next-gen update trailer for Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition.

Last month, it was announced that Henry Cavill would not be reprising his role as Geralt of Rivia for the show’s fourth season.

He will now be replaced by Liam Hemsworth, who is best known for his role as Gale Hawthorne in the Hunger Games film series.
