Someone cheated on The Witcher 3 next-gen update for PC, with players reporting widespread frame rate issues along with crashes and weirder HUD-related issues. Permanent RPS hardware James also struggled with performance.
Developers CD Projekt Red now say they are “actively investigating” the issues and will let us know what they find “as soon as possible”.
Here’s the tweet.
We are aware of the issues that PC players are reporting after last night’s update release. We are actively investigating all reports and will provide updates on specific issues as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience!

The real kicker is that turning off those fancy ray tracing effects still leaves people with fewer frames than they had before the update, which shouldn’t be a big deal for those with high-end cards, but it could be a problem for those who could manage the game anyway. Hopefully CD Projekt will address this as well as the crashes and ray tracing issues. Hanging owners of low spec systems out to dry would be nasty.
If you’re mad at Witcher right now, you can undo the changes – although you’ll have to reset the last big patch from 2016.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition is now on Steam, GOG and the Epic Game Store. However, it’s probably best to wait for these fixes. Follow their Twitter.
