Prince Harry doesn’t hold back in his new memoir Spare, which will be released on January 10. With interest in Harry, his upbringing and his ever-evolving relationship with his family at an all-time high, excerpts of the memoir have already started making headlines in the days leading up to its release.
The book arrives as the couple continue to talk about their experiences in the British monarchy. Most recently, the two detailed the origins of their relationship and the events that led to their controversial royal exit in the Netflix docu-series Harry and Meghan. Harry also plans to give TV interviews to ITV, 60 Minutes and the Late Show with Stephen Colbert in the coming days.
According to Google Trends, searches for “Prince Harry’s Memoirs” and “Order Reserve” increased by more than 200% this week as the book shot to the top of Amazon’s bestseller list days before its actual release date on January 10.
Spare will also hit the shelves during a tumultuous time for the UK following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the ascension of King Charles III and economic turmoil that saw Prime Minister Liz Truss resign after 44 days in the job.
Here are the biggest reveals from Spare, out on January 10:
Prince Harry killed 25 Taliban soldiers
In the new book, Harry writes about his time serving in Afghanistan, revealing that while on the front line he killed 25 people on active duty. (During his ten years in the British Army, he visited Afghanistan twice.)
“Most soldiers don’t know exactly how many kills they have to their credit.” In combat, you often shoot indiscriminately. However, in the age of Apache and laptops, everything I did over the course of two missions was recorded and time-stamped,” he wrote, according to Sky News. “I could always tell exactly how many enemy combatants I had killed. And it seemed important to me not to be afraid of that number.

He added: “Among the many things I learned in the armed forces, one of the most important was to be responsible for my own actions.”
Harry was once “casually angry” at Meghan
While Prince Harry usually only speaks positively about his relationship with wife Meghan Markle, he opened up about a particularly difficult time in their relationship. Amid the craziness of their time in the royal family, he says he once got “carelessly angry” at his wife after taking something she said “the wrong way” during a conversation.
“Maybe the wine went to my head. Maybe the weeks of battling the press had worn me down. For some reason, when the conversation took an unexpected turn, I got touchy,” Harry wrote, according to Us Weekly. “Then angry. Disproportionately, carelessly angry.
“I was oversensitive that night too. I thought, “Why did she turn on me?” I snorted at her, spoke rudely to her [and] cruelly,” he added. “As the words left my mouth, I felt everything in the room stop. The sauce stopped bubbling, the air molecules stopped circling. Even Nina Simone seemed to stop.
After yelling at her, Harry says Markle ended up in their bedroom, where she calmly but sternly told him she would never “put up with being spoken to like that”.
“Did you hear adults talk like that when you were growing up?” I cleared my throat, looked away [and responded]”Yes,” Harry wrote.
“It came from somewhere deep inside, somewhere that had to be dug up, and it was obvious that I was going to need help with the job,” Harry explained. “I tried therapy,” I told her. “Willie told me to go.” I never found the right person. [It] it didn’t work. “No,” she said quietly. ‘Try again.'”

William and Kate told him to wear the infamous Nazi uniform
Remember when Prince Harry was on the cover of The Sun for wearing a Nazi uniform? Well, the Duke of Sussex blames his older brother William and his wife Kate Middleton for the decision that plunged the royal family into scandal.
After not being sure what to wear to a Halloween party, “I called Willie and Kate, asked what they thought. Nazi uniform, they said,” Harry wrote in an excerpt obtained by Page Six. And after trying on the outfit in front of her, “they both roared. Worse than Willie’s leotard! Much more ridiculous! Which, again, was the goal.’
Prince William physically attacked Harry over Meghan Markle
Among the revelations in the new book is that Prince Harry says he was assaulted by his brother William during an incident at the Duke of Sussex’s London home in 2019.
A leaked extract obtained by The Guardian describes how William allegedly arrived at Harry’s home and called his wife Meghan Markle “rude” and “abrasive”, which Harry described as “parroting” the tabloid press.
The Duke of Sussex defended his partner as the two exchanged insults. “He left the water on, called me another name, then pounced on me. It all happened so fast. So very fast… He grabbed me by the collar, tore off my necklace and knocked me to the floor,” Harry recounts in the book, according to The Guardian. “I landed on the dog’s bowl, which burst under my back, the pieces cutting into me. I lay there for a moment, dazed, then stood up and told him to go away.
Harry says William encouraged him to hit back, before the older brother appeared “remorseful” and later “apologised” for his actions. “(She) wasn’t that surprised and she wasn’t that angry. She was terribly sad,” Harry said of the meeting.
Prince Harry’s penis was frozen
In another startling revelation, Harry’s penis, or ‘todger’, was frostbitten after he went on an expedition to the North Pole in 2011. He was still recovering from a charity walk that left him frostbitten when he attended Prince William’s wedding with Kate Middleton in 2011.
“Dad was very interested and sympathetic to the discomfort of my frozen ears and cheeks,” he wrote, adding that he didn’t want to share his penis with his family, on page six. “While the ears and cheeks were now healed, the todger was not. This was becoming more and more of a problem with each passing day.
Kate Middleton makes Meghan Markle apologize for saying she has ‘baby brain’
The girls were fighting. In an excerpt from the book obtained by NBC News, Prince Harry revealed that Kate Middleton made Meghan Markle apologize for suggesting she had “baby brain,” which refers to memory problems and concentration problems that occur during time of pregnancy.
“You were talking about my hormones. We’re not close enough for you to talk about my hormones!” Middleton allegedly told Markle, according to the book.

In Spare, Harry claims Markle remembers suggesting her daughter-in-law might have a “baby brain” after she forgot something minor. (Prince William even chimed in, pointing at Markle and calling her rude, to which she replied, “Get your finger out of my face.”)
