A man was rushed to the hospital Friday morning after a truck crashed into a home in the Ogden community.
The collision happened in the area of 20A Street SE and 76th Avenue SE around 1:30 a.m.
Police say a Ford F350 is believed to have been traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 76 Avenue but crashed into the home after the driver failed to negotiate a curve.
“When I first arrived I was quite surprised to see how far into the house this truck was, it actually went into the basement,” said Sgt. Brad Norman of the Calgary Police Service.
“The back of the truck is in the air … its nose is in the basement, so the impact is quite significant.”
Norman says the driver was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but the six people living at the apartment complex were not injured.
“Inside the residence, on the second level, there were four adults with two infants. They are fine. They have been moved to a safe area,” he said.
“They’ve only been in this house for two weeks. The other party is not busy.’
Calgary police are investigating a collision in Ogden on Friday, January 6, 2023, in which a vehicle crashed into a house. The truck involved has a British Columbia license plate and police say the driver is not the registered owner.
“Alcohol is currently under investigation. We’re in the preliminary stages of that to see exactly if alcohol is a factor,” Norman said.
Members of the Calgary Fire Department (CFD) ensured that gas to the complex was shut off.
“When we recover the vehicle we will have the CFD return to the scene with their structural engineers and possibly their heavy rescue. They’ll be able to shore it up and make sure it’s safe,” Norman said.
