Water main break causes severe flooding in Mississauga

Peel Regional Police say sinkholes are now forming after a water main break along the Mississauga coast and roads in the area are not expected to reopen until Friday evening.

Peel police tweeted a video Thursday afternoon showing waist-high water on Lakeshore Road. In the video, several vehicles can be seen trapped in the flood water.

Police said they were first alerted to the incident around 4:30 p.m

No injuries were reported. Police said two people had to be treated after their cars got stuck in the water.

Police said crews from the Peel area were on the scene to deal with the problem. Water has been shut off in the area.

Early Friday morning, police said sinkholes were forming in the area.

Lakeshore Road West is closed in both directions between Lorne Park Road and Ibar Way.

That stretch of road is expected to remain closed until around 5pm on Friday
