Highway 401: OPP pulls over driver going 216 km/h in Kingston

Ontario Provincial Police say a 22-year-old driver from Kingston, Ont. is facing charges after officers stopped a vehicle going more than twice the speed limit on the 401 freeway.

Police said Frontenac OPP stopped the driver around 11pm on Friday in Kingston. The driver was traveling at 216 km/h, or 116 km/h over the speed limit.

“A 22-year-old from Kingston was charged with dangerous operation and stunt driving,” the OPP said in a tweet.

The driver was not identified in the tweet.

The stunt driving charge comes with an automatic 30-day license suspension and 14-day vehicle impoundment. The accused driver must also appear before the court.
