Tech giant Apple’s upcoming major update, iOS 17, will reportedly not bring major changes as its engineers focus more on the upcoming Augmented Reality (AR) – Mixed Reality (MR) headset.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iOS 17 codenamed “Dawn” and macOS 14 codenamed “Sunburst” are likely to have “less major changes than originally planned” as the iPhone maker focuses more on xrOS for the upcoming handset , reports MacRumors.
Gurman also said the tech giant doesn’t plan any major updates to its iPad, AirPods, Apple TV or Apple Watch product lines for 2023.
He also said that there won’t be any “notable” improvements to the AirPods series this year, which could rule out the possibility of a new version of the AirPods Max.
Speaking about the Apple Watch, Gurman said he doesn’t expect major hardware changes this year, except for some small performance improvements on Apple Watch models, the report said.
Meanwhile, last week, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that mass shipping of the iPhone maker’s upcoming MR headset will be delayed until the end of the second quarter (Q2) or quarter 3 (Q3) of this year.
According to Kuo, the reason for the delay is that development of the headset has fallen behind schedule “due to issues with drop testing of mechanical components and the availability of software development tools.”
